Your information, explained clearly

Privacy Policy

Effective 5 October 2026

This policy explains how Harrison Murray, the Western Australian operator of the StudyScope service ("we", "us" or "our"), handles personal information when you use the StudyScope website and service.

The short version

  • We collect the information needed to run your account and academic workspace.
  • Your account and academic records are stored using Supabase.
  • CSV files are read in your browser; only the records you choose to import are saved.
  • We do not automatically send your academic data to an AI provider.
  • You can ask to access, correct or delete your information by emailing us.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the service, we may collect:

  • Account information: your email address, account identifier, legal-acknowledgement version and authentication information. Your password is handled by Supabase authentication and is not visible to Harrison Murray.
  • Learning profile information: your name, education level and preferred learning style.
  • Academic information: subjects, assessment names, grades, weightings, assessment types, topics, dates, teacher comments and student reflections that you enter or import.
  • Preferences: display, accessibility, grade and AI-prompt preferences saved in your browser.
  • Technical and security information: information normally generated when the service is used, such as session, browser, device, network, diagnostic and security-log information processed by our service providers.
  • Communications: information you include when you contact us about support, privacy or your account.

Please only enter another person's information, including a teacher's comments, when you are permitted to do so. Avoid including unnecessary sensitive or identifying details.

2. How we collect information

We collect information directly from you when you create an account, complete your profile, record or import results, change preferences, or contact us. Our providers also collect limited technical information when they deliver authentication, database, hosting or security functions.

When you select a CSV file, the file is read and checked in your browser. The original CSV file is not uploaded as a separate file. The academic rows you approve are saved to your account.

3. Why we use information

We use personal information to:

  • create, authenticate and secure accounts;
  • save, organise and display your academic records;
  • calculate statistics, trends and locally generated insight prompts;
  • remember your settings and personalise the workspace;
  • respond to support, access, correction, deletion and privacy requests;
  • detect misuse, troubleshoot problems and protect the service; and
  • comply with applicable laws and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not sell personal information or use academic records for targeted advertising.

4. AI Insights and external AI services

The AI Insights feature prepares a prompt in your browser using the subjects and results you select. A prompt may include assessment details, grades, teacher comments and student reflections. StudyScope can copy that prompt to your clipboard and open an external AI website, but it does not automatically transmit the prompt to that provider.

If you paste or submit the prompt to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot or another service, that provider will handle the information under its own terms and privacy policy. Review the prompt first and remove names or details you do not want to share. Harrison Murray does not control how an external AI provider uses information you submit to it.

5. Storage, service providers and overseas processing

We use Supabase for account authentication and database storage. We may also rely on providers involved in hosting, email delivery, security and website delivery. These providers may process information outside Australia, including in the countries where they or their subprocessors operate.

We disclose information to providers only as needed to operate and protect the service, or where disclosure is required or authorised by law. We may also disclose information during a genuine business reorganisation, subject to appropriate privacy protections.

6. Browser storage and cookies

The service uses browser storage and may use essential authentication cookies or similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect sessions, remember preferences and migrate older locally saved records. We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party behavioural tracking. If that changes, we will update this policy and provide any choices required by law.

7. Users aged 13 to 17

StudyScope is available to people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, please use the service with the permission of a parent or guardian and ask them to help if anything in this policy is unclear.

We aim to collect only the information needed to provide the service. A parent or guardian can contact us about a young person's information, although we may need to verify their identity and authority before acting.

8. Security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including account authentication and database access controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so use a strong, unique password and keep access to your email account secure.

We retain account and academic information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, maintain security and meet legal obligations. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

9. Access, correction and deletion

You can review and update much of your information within the service. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information or account, email admin@study-scope.com from the address associated with your account. We may ask for information needed to verify your identity.

Some information may need to be retained where required by law or for legitimate security, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes. We will explain if we cannot fully complete a request.

10. Privacy questions and complaints

Contact Harrison Murray at admin@study-scope.com with a privacy question or complaint. Please describe the issue and the outcome you are seeking. We will review the matter and respond within a reasonable period.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be able to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service, our providers or legal requirements change. We will publish the updated version here and change the effective date. If a change materially affects how we handle existing personal information, we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice.
